According to the Corporate Registry Examiner, at Alberta Government Services, the Corporate Registry no longer accepts Vision, Mission or Goal statements. This information should be kept in the society’s internal records. Objectives are action statements about what your society was formed to do. They include our target group and our charitable purpose.
Objective amendments are considered an application amendment and require a special resolution.
The objectives currently filed with the Corporate Registry Office are our former Vision and Mission Statements. They were incorporated into our Bylaws at Article 2. Those statements were amended by action of the Board of Directors on January 23, 2003.
Our former Mission was:
The Central Alberta Women’s Outreach Society is committed to providing programs and services that support women and their families who may be experiencing difficulty meeting their basic needs. Our priorities are families affected by poverty and/or abuse.
Our current Mission Statement is:
Helping women to pursue and achieve a safer, healthier, and more secure life for themselves and the families.
Our target group (women and their families) remains the same.
Our charitable purpose remains much the same, with our revised objective to read:
Central Alberta Women’s Outreach Society is committed to providing programs and services that support women and their families who are experiencing barriers to achieving their goals in the areas of safety, heath and security.
As a matter of policy, we set our priorities within that charitable purpose internally via our strategic planning process. Our current mandate is to: 1) help people effectively address domestic/family abuse, and 2) help people overcome the effects of poverty.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Having reviewed and reaffirmed its Mission and Mandate, the Board and staff continued the work in progress over the last several years and crafted Building Principles. The following Guiding Principles were approved at the Planning Workshop in April 2010 in addressing domestic/family abuse and helping women and families overcome the effects of poverty. CAWOS will be guided by the following Principles:
1. We will be client driven and solution focused.
2. We will refer clients to other agencies if there are more suitable resources that meet their needs.
3. We will collaborate with other community organizations to the benefit of clients.
4. We will collaborate with others and coordinate services in rural communities to enhance service to isolated clients.
5. We will provide short term, on-going and/or long term support to individuals who are with our mandate.
6. We will provide opportunities for professional development of staff.
7. We will ensure all staff and volunteers are competent and qualified to provide the support, services and, as needed, leadership to the organization.
8. We will have a dedicated Board skilled in governance.
